Papers, 1870-1969.

The Laura Green Papers date from 1870-1969 and contain notes written by friends and relatives relating to Laura Green's life story, information found through an interview with her, and a copy of her obituary. There is also a copy of an article from the Grand Forks Herald and a page copied from a book that make reference to her father. 46 photographs in the Laura Green Papers have been separated and placed in the Orin G. Libby Photographic Collection. All the photographs except the picture of the cabin are accompanied by a negative. Most are photographs taken in Grand Forks but a few were taken in other parts of North Dakota and Minnesota. A taped interview with Laura Green has been separated and placed in the Audio-Visual Collection as #947

Laura Green was born September 24, 1876. Her father, George Aker, and his wife came to Dakota Territory by covered wagon. They built a cabin in 1870 in what is now the Riverside Park area of Grand Forks, North Dakota. They are believed to be the first white family to settle in Grand Forks. As the town grew he became the Superintendent of Water Works and served in that capacity for a number of years. Laura Green graduated from Grand Forks High School in 1893.
